Borderlands 4 hasn't been out long, but modders are already busy. Dozens of mods have appeared online. Many of them break the atmosphere, wreck the game's balance, and pull you out of the world of Pandora and beyond. A few, though, actually make the game better: they cut out the busywork, add variety, and make each session more fun. This list covers those.
Big Backpacks
We'll start with the most useful one, which saves you a lot of tedious inventory management. Big Backpacks greatly expands your character's inventory, so you can carry far more consumables and gear. No more finding a great drop from an enemy or chest and having to leave it behind because your backpack is full. You'll also spend less time running back to your stash or a vendor to sell off junk.
Fishing Pinata
Fishing is one of the new features in Borderlands 4. Unfortunately, in the base game it's pretty dull, and the rewards rarely feel worth the time. Fishing Pinata changes that. It makes you five times more likely to catch a fish, and a successful catch can give you several Legendary items at once. It's a good fit for players who'd rather shoot things and do missions than grind endlessly for decent gear.
All Map Unlocked
Once you first load into Borderlands 4, it's clear that exploring the map will take dozens of hours, especially if you want to find every collectible. All Map Unlocked makes this easier by revealing every region and hidden area, so you're no longer guessing where to go. The best part is that the mod doesn't give everything away. The most interesting activities show up as question marks, so you still have to go there yourself to find out what secrets are waiting.
Faster Rides
This one is for players who find the huge open world of Borderlands 4 tiring to cross. Faster Rides greatly raises the top speed of hoverbikes, one of the game's vehicles, so you can reach the farthest corners of the map in very little time. This kind of "cheat" can hurt immersion on a first playthrough. But if you've already finished the main story and core activities, Faster Rides helps you clear side content and find the last secret areas without spending hours going back through places you've already explored. It's a free time-saver.
Difficulty and Loot Tweaks
Difficulty and Loot Tweaks gives you detailed control over the game's settings, including difficulty, drop rates, weapon power, and more. You can tune the game exactly how you like it, try bold experiments, or make things much harder by tying loot value to the level and difficulty of the enemy that drops it. Modders have done similar things for the Diablo series.
Final Thoughts
These are just a few of the Borderlands 4 mods released in the first days after launch, and there will be many more. Despite the publisher's greed and steep regional pricing, the game sold very well and had hundreds of thousands of concurrent players on Steam alone. Still, if you're new to the game, we recommend playing through it at least once the way the developers intended before you start trying fan-made mods.
